Step 1 · Understand the Basics

Dosing Basics 📏

The right dose is probably smaller than you think.

Dosing cannabis isn't like taking ibuprofen. There's no universal "right amount." It depends on your body, your tolerance, the product, and what you're going for. But there are solid principles to follow.

What counts as a "low" dose?

Microdose
Subtle, functional, barely noticeable
1–2.5mg
Low Dose
Mild effects — good starting point for beginners
2.5–5mg
Moderate
More noticeable — some experience needed
5–10mg
High Dose
For experienced users with established tolerance
10mg+

Legal edibles in Canada are capped at 10mg THC per package — which tells you a lot about where "low" actually starts.

Your tolerance changes over time

If you're brand new, your tolerance is zero. Even a small amount can feel significant. That's completely normal. Building tolerance slowly gives you way more control over your experience.

Keep a journal

Track it — product, dose, method, time, how you felt. It sounds like a lot but it makes a huge difference in finding your sweet spot. Download our free Dosing Journal to get started.
