Step 1 · Understand the Basics
Terpenes Explained 🍋🌲
They're why two products with the same THC can feel completely different.
Terpenes are natural compounds found in cannabis — and in most plants, actually. They're responsible for how cannabis smells and tastes, but they also play a real role in how it feels. This is part of what's called the entourage effect.
Common terpenes to know
Limonene
Citrusy, bright — often associated with uplifted mood and energy
Myrcene
Earthy, herbal — commonly linked to relaxation and sleepiness
Pinene
Pine-forward — may support alertness and memory
Linalool
Floral like lavender — often calming and anxiety-reducing
Caryophyllene
Spicy, peppery — the only terpene that also acts like a cannabinoid
Terpinolene
Fresh and floral — often found in more uplifting products
How do I use this when shopping?
Instead of just chasing THC percentages, look at the terpene profile on a product. High in myrcene and linalool? Better for evening. Limonene and pinene? More of a daytime vibe. Terpenes are often a better guide than THC% alone.
